Cuttack: Subhash Chandra Singh, Rajya Sabha member and national spokesperson for BJD, is reportedly among the frontrunners for the party’s ticket for Cuttack mayor post.
The BJD, which retained the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) council for the last two terms, is also mulling over the names of Gastroenterologist Dr Devanand Mohapatra, former Barabati -Cuttack MLA Debashish Samantray and former CMC corporator and state executive member Ranjan Biswal.
President and secretary of city BJD unit Madhu Sudan Sahu and Prasant Nayak respectively, former mayor Soumendra Ghose, Odia actress Varsha Priyadarshini, local BJD leaders Biswajit Mohanty, Mohammad Sakil, Dharmesh Nayak, Chiranjay Sahu, CMC administrator Anil Samal, former Commissioner Rabi Nanda, former deputy mayor Ajay Barik and secretary, district unit Prasant Nayak. are the other probable aspirants, media reports said.
Notably, the Congress has already finalised president of the Cuttack City Congress Committee and former corporator Giribala Behera as its mayor candidate CMC.
The filing of nominations for election to the 106 Urban Local Bodies and three municipal corporations began on March 2 and will conclude on March 7. This time, the voters will directly elect the mayors when polls are held on March 24.
