Bhubaneswar: The Indian Embassy in Ukraine on Wednesday issued two back-to-back tweets in all caps for its citizens stranded in Kharkiv, the eastern city of war-ravaged Ukraine.

The Indian nationals have been asked to immediately leave the second-largest city, which has come under intense attack from Russia in the last two days, and reach Pesochin, Babaye or Bezlyudovka latest by 6 pm local time (9.30 pm IST).

“For their safety and security, they must leave Kharkiv immediately. Proceed to Pisochyn, Bezlyudovka and Babaye as soon as possible for their safety,” the Indian Embassy tweeted and reiterated, “Under all circumstances, they must reach these settlements by 1800 hours (Ukrainian time) today.”

Notably, a student had earlier shared a video, explaining the struggle of Indians to get into a train at Kharkiv railway station. They were reportedly stopped from boarding trains even after waiting for three long hours.

This raised concern as a medical student from Karnataka was killed in Russian shellings there the previous day.

With Pesochin, Babaye and Bezlyudovka being 11.6 km, 16.6 km and 91 km away from Kharkiv, it will, however, be difficult to cover these distances on foot amid the shelling.
