Bhubaneswar: Taking note of the difficulties faced by the students and the faculty to go inside the campus through the main gate, the Utkal University authorities have decided to shift the entry point to a new location.
At present, the students and teachers take the wrong route of the National Highway-16 to go to the university through the main gate which has led to several mishaps. The students have been demanding relocation of the main gate to prevent the accidents.
Considering their demands, the university authorities have decided to use the main gate as the exit point and prepared a blueprint of a new entrance point.
They have convened a high-level review meeting next week to discuss the design of the new entrance road. It will be attended by senior officials of the Commissionerate Police, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Higher Education Department and Works Department.
It has been decided that the Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation will carry out the construction of the main gate after approval of the design.
The construction of the entrance road and the main gate has been estimated to cost Rs 5 crore and targeted to be completed by 2022.
