Bhubaneswar: The year-long Platinum Jubilee celebration of Utkal University will culminate with the Alumni Meet and other events spread over five days, from November 23-27.
The university Alumni Meet be held on November 24 will be the major attraction of the event, said the VC, Prof Soumendra Mohan Patnaik. “Alumni are ambassadors of the university, the oldest in Odisha. They can extend their help in different fields and support research and innovation in the campus, the VC said at the Utkal Alumni preparatory meet on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo, who assured his support to make the Alumni Meet a success. Sahoo is an alumnus of the university.
Other alumni who were present at the meeting and shared their thoughts were former minister Panchanan Kanungo, former legislator Prasad Harichandan, former chief secretary Bijayananda Pattanaik, senior journalist Sandeep Mishra, former student Tanmay Swain, Odisha Review editor Dr Lenin Mohanty and former bureaucrat Damodar Pradhani.
Some of the suggestions that came out of the deliberation were the construction of an alumni building, an alumni innovation fund, a dedicated website for the alumni and alumni sponsored fellowship and chairs.
During the five day event, the university will also organise a parents day, student-teacher day and a retired employees day.
The Platinum Jubilee celebration had begun on November 20, 2018.
