You have heard of several bizarre acts by human beings. But this one will rank right up there.
A Brazilian man took five jabs of different COVID-19 vaccines in a span of 10 weeks before being finally caught while trying for a sixth shot, reported AFP.
The Rio de Janeiro resident took five doses — two of Pfizer, two of Coronavac and one of AstraZeneca — between May 12 and July 21, confirmed the city’s Health Secretariat. And all of them were registered on his vaccination card.
It’s a mystery how he managed to get five shots of three different vaccines. According to the system in Brazil, the person should be of the age determined by the municipal calendar, submit identification. For the second dose, he or she must produce the document certifying the first dose.
According to officials of the Mayor’s office, the vaccine-obsessed man apparently visited three different health centres, and is likely to have taken advantage of moments of failure in the electronic system to receive doses he was not eligible for.
The case came to light when the ‘culprit’ was trying to get a sixth dose on August 16.
Authorities have summoned the man and initiated an inquiry to determine whether this is an isolated case or one of many.
Brazil is one of the worst-affected COVID-hit countries, with an overall tally of 20,676,561 infections and 577,565 deaths.
