Puri: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday termed the vandalism inside the official residence premises of senior IAS officer VK Pandian by some activists of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) “a truly shocking incident”.
“It’s absolutely shocking as some members of a national party have agreed that they took part in it,” he told media persons in Puri.
The Chief Minister was in Puri to attend the Pattabhishek ceremony of the Shankaracharya of Gobardhan Peeth, Swami Nischalananda Saraswati. Among others, King of Nepal Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shad Dev and Puri Gajapati King Divyasingh Dev were present at the ceremony.
While the incident was condemned by the BJD and Congress, the IAS Officers’ Association, OAS Officers’ Association, IPS Officers’ Association and several others employees’ associations had also condemned the incident and demanded stringent action against the culprits.
The Commissionerate Police which swung into action following the incident, arrested four BJYM activists.
Earlier in the day, about 30-40 BJYM activists barged into Pandian’s official residence and damaged some bikes and flower vases. They hurled cow dung at the main gate of his residence.
Before leaving the area, they said they would continue their protest against the modus operandi of the IAS officer.
