Concerned over the plight of the poor and downtrodden during the coronavirus outbreak, the Vedanta Resources Founder and Chairman, Anil Agarwal has stepped forward to donate Rs 100 crore towards the pandemic affected people.
The mining magnate took to Twitter on Sunday to share his concern and wrote, “I am committing Rs 100 cr towards fighting the Pandemic. #DeshKiZarooratonKeLiye is a pledge that we undertook & this is the time when our country needs us the most. Many people are facing uncertainty & I’m specially concerned about the daily wage earners, we will do our bit to help.”
Earlier on Sunday, Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra announced that Club Mahindra Resorts will be used as temporary hospitals in the wake of the pandemic.
In January, Alibaba founder Jack Ma had donated $14.4 million through his foundation called Jack Ma Foundation.
In February, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation had committed $100 million to “improve detection, isolation and treatment efforts; protect at-risk populations in Africa and South Asia; and accelerate the development of vaccines, drugs and diagnostics.
Tencent and Baidu donated $42.2 million each (300 million yuan), ByteDance pledged $28.1 million (200 million yuan), according to China Daily.
Others contributing to the fight included Walmart with $25 million pledge, Netflix’s $100 million relief fund.
Globally over 3.18 lakh cases have been reported for Coronavirus and 13,671 people have died, as per Worldometer.
