Bhubaneswar: Vedanta in association with BMC has set up Jal Seva Shibira (drinking water kiosk) at 15 important locations of Bhubaneswar to help people get relief from scorching heat and prevent sun stroke.
The kiosks will provide cool water, lemon water and butter milk from 9 am to 5 pm everyday for one and a half months till mid-June. Those will be operated by two NGOs – Automahasang and Deesha. Biogram, an all-women startup will lead the NGOs for the work.
Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das inaugurated the kiosks in presence of Dr Tapan Chand, president of Vedanta and former CMD of Nalco. Thanking Vedanta for humanitarian work, the Mayor said similar steps should be taken for birds and animals to protect them from the heat.
Rahul Sharma, CEO Vedanta Aluminium and Power, in his message said Jal Seva Shivira is a need-based beneficial program for the people and the company would introduce more such programmes shortly.
Several eminent personalities of Odisha, who inaugurated other outlets, included actor Sabyasachi Mishra, Sudarshan Sahoo, Prabhakar Maharana, Aruna Mohanty, Swamy Jagadananda, social Worker Arati Devi, director of KIIT International Center Jayant Parida and chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan, Bhubaneswar Lt General J K Mohanty.
