Bhubaneswar: The Deep Depression over Gangetic West Bengal is expected to maintain its intensity till forenoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.
“The Deep Depression over Gangetic West Bengal moved slowly westward with a speed of 8 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 5.30 am over the same region, about 40 km west-northwest of Kolkata (West Bengal), 130 km east-southeast of Bankura (West Bengal), 190 km east of Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) and 290 km eastsoutheast of Ranchi (Jharkhand). It is likely to move slowly, nearly westwards across Gangetic West Bengal and maintain its intensity of Deep Sepression till forenoon.”
Thereafter, it will continue to move nearly westwards across Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh and weaken gradually into a Depression during the subsequent 24 hours, it added.
Under its influence, Odisha may continue to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) on Sunday. Heavy rainfall may also at isolated place from September 15-17.
The IMD had earlier issued orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur on September 15. Heavy rainfall is also likely at at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Bargarh, Sonepur, Angul, Keonjhar, and Deogarh.
On Monday (September 16), heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in Sundargarh districts.
