Konark: Nimapara police station inspector-in-charge (IIC) Mrutyunjaya Swain had allegedly beat up a 74-year-old woman for repeatedly visiting police station.
Though the incident took place on May 7, the matter came to the fore after a video clip featuring the same went viral on Tuesday.
According to information, the woman, identified as Basanti Palata of Dhirapur Dalei Sahi, had gone to the police station along with her son after being called up by the IIC concerned basing on a complaint lodged by her daughter-in-law Rita, alleging torture by in-laws.
After the duo reached the police station, the IIC detained them for nearly two hours and later hit them with a ‘lathi’.
The victim has lodged a written complaint in this regard with Puri SP.
The police officer, however, has refuted the allegations levelled against him.
Meanwhile, a fact-finding team of the BJP has arrived at Basanti’s house to take stock of the matter.
