Puri: Vigilance has apprehended a junior engineer (JE) while taking bribe in Odisha’s Puri district on Tuesday evening.
Following a complaint filed by a contractor stating that Rajani Kanta Majhi, Junior Engineer in Delanga block of the district, was demanding bribe of Rs 30,000 for facilitating release of his final bill towards construction of an Anganwadi Centre, the Vigilance set a trap.
As per the plan, the contractor went to give the bribe to Majhi and the Vigilance sleuths caught him accepting the money read handed. The entire amount was recovered from the possession of the JE and seized.
Following the trap, the Vigilance has launched simultaneous searches on the properties of Majhi at two locations.
Bhubaneswar Vigilance has registered a case under PC Amendment Act, 2018 in this connection. Further investigation is in progress against Majhi.
