Bhubaneswar: Vigilance on Thursday apprehended a man while taking bribe on direction of the secretary of a cooperative society in Odisha’s Nayagarh.
Following a complaint that Sukanta Behera, a private person was demanding bribe of Rs 4,000 on the direction of Krushna Chandra Nayak, secretary, Haripur Cooperative Society in Nayagarh, for facilitating release of agricultural loans in favour of the complainant and his family members, the Vigilance set a trap.
As per the plan, the complainant, who is also a member of the Society, went to give the bribe to Sukanta. The Vigilance sleuths nabbed Sukanta red-handed while he was accepting the bribe.
The entire bribe money was recovered from Sukanta and seized. The Vigilance has launched a search operation to nab Nayak who is absconding.
Following the trap, the Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches on the properties of Nayak at two locations from DA angle.
Bhubaneswar Vigilance has registered a case under PC Amendment Act, 2018 in this connection. Investigation is in progress against both Nayak and Sukanta.
