Cuttack: Vigilance officials apprehended an assistant engineer while taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Friday.
Following a complaint that Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, Assistant Engineer in the office of BDO at Salipur in the district was demanding the bribe from a contractor for release of an amount relating to supply of cement, metal, sand etc. and labor for execution of 3 CC roads, the Vigilance laid a trap.
As per the plan, the contractor went to give Rs 40,000 to Nayak and the Vigilance officials caught him taking the bribe red-handed. The entire money was recovered from Nayak and seized.
Following the trap, Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches on three locations of Nayak’s properties from DA angle.
Cuttack Vigilance has registered a case in this connection under PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is on.
