Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended an assistant manager of TP Northern Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPNODL) on corruption charge in Mayurbhanj district.
Following a complaint that Jagannath Behera, assistant manager, TPNODL, Bangiriposhi Section had demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe for issuing work completion certificate in connection with supply of electricity to a market complex at Laxmiposhi, the Vigilance officials laid a trap.
As per the plan, the Vigilance team directed the complainant to give the money and nabbed Behera accepting it in front of Radha Krishna temple in Bangiriposhi. The bribe money was recovered from the possession of Behera and seized in presence of witnesses.
At the same time, Rs 1.5 lakh was recovered and seized from the possession of Behera at the spot and is being verified by the Vigilance officials.
Following this, simultaneous searches have been launched on the rented house of Behera at Bangiriposhi and his house at Baripada.
In this connection, Balasore Vigilance has registered a case under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and further investigation is on, according to a release of Vigilance Directorate, Cuttack.
