Berhampur: Vigilance apprehended an executive engineer and a junior clerk while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Friday.
The Vigilance had received a complaint that Benudhar Dalai, Executive Engineer (Irrigation), CAD Division 8, Aska in the district and Kailash Chandra Behera, Junior Clerk of the same office were demanding the bribe from the owner of a vehicle to clear his pending bills towards hire charges of his vehicle for use by the office.
Following the complaint, the Vigilance set a trap and as per the instruction of Dalai, the complainant handed over the bribe today to Behera in presence of the executive engineer. The Vigilance officials caught Behera red handed while taking the bribe and recovered the money from his possession.
Following the trap, the Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches on three locations of Dalai and two locations of Behera from DA angle.
Berhampur Vigilance has registered a case in this connection under PC Amendment Act, 2018 against both the accused. Further investigation is in progress against them.
