Berhampur: Vigilance sleuths nabbed an overseer while accepting a bribe of Rs 26,000 from a farmer in Ganjam district on Friday.
According to reports, Purna Chandra Patra, a farmer of Karachuli village, had approached Uma Charan Behera, Horticulture Overseer in Buguda block for a field verification report in respect of execution of the project under Horticulture department to facilitate farmers to get subsidy.
Behera had demanded Rs 26,000 as bribe from Patra to file the field verification report. The farmer had informed the Vigilance officials of Berhampur division in this regard.
The Vigilance officials laid a trap and told Patra to give the chemically treated cash to the overseer. While Behera was accepting the bribe money, the Vigilance sleuths caught him red handed and recovered the money.
The Vigilance has registered a case in this regard and further investigation is on.
