Balasore: In another example of poor healthcare management in the state, security guards of a hospital have been found providing treatment to the patients in a hospital of Balasore district.
As per reports, security guards from a private agency have been appointed at the sub-divisional hospital at Nilagiri in the district. Apart from their usual duty of looking after the security of the hospital, they have been engaged to other works like painting the hospital equipment and extending treatment to the patients. A video in this regard has gone viral in social media platforms.
According to some patients, the security guards were entering their names in the register, checking their temperature and blood pressure and also giving them the prescribed medicines instead of doctors or pharmacists.
The locals alleged that this was not first time that the guards, both male and female, were doing the duty of the doctors and nurses. Though the guards have been found medical services on several occasions and the complaints lodged with hospital authorities, no steps have been taken so far, the locals claimed.
On being asked about the issue, Medical Officer Sarojini Pradhan said she was aware of it. “We are aware of the incidents and the security guards have been given warning. Necessary actions have been initiated against them,” a local TV channel quoted Pradhan as saying.
