Virat Kohli has decided to step down as Team India captain in T20 Internationals.
He’ll be relinquishing the hot seat in the shortest format of the game after leading the country in ICC T20 World Cup, to be held in the UAE in October-November.
In a detailed note on Twitter, Kohli said that he will continue to play T20 Internationals as a batsman and lead the team in Tests and ODIs.
Kohli’s decision is based on the “immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all three formats and captaining regularly over the last 5-6 years.”
Though the BCCI hasn’t made an announcement yet, Rohit Sharma is all but certain to take over the leadership role in T20 Internationals.
