New Delhi: A Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorist wanted in Jammu & Kashmir was caught in the national Capital on Thursday.

A team of Delhi Police’s Special Cell, in coordination with central agencies, arrested Javed Ahmed Mattoo, from whom they recovered a pistol, six live cartridges and a stolen car.

Mattoo, who carried a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head, was wanted in 11 terror attacks in Jammu & Kashmir.

He was among top 10 targets on the list of security agencies in J & K.

Police said Mattoo had gone underground after getting injured in an exchange with security forces in Jammu & Kashmir. He reportedly fled to Nepal on Pakistani spy agency ISI’s instructions.

Delhi Police recently received information that Mattoo would be travelling to Delhi-NCR to collect arms and ammunition. Those who keep tabs on sleeper cells and weapon suppliers were alerted by police.

Police also came to know that Mattoo’s Pakistan-based handler will be coordinating delivery of arms and ammunition, and that he’ll carry out terror strikes in J & K.

Mattoo, a resident of Sopore, has been to Pakistan several times. He was involved in five grenade attacks in Jammu & Kashmir, and was also involved in the killing of five police personnel in different incidents.

Besides terror activities, Mattoo also managed finances and logistics, including procurement of weapons from ISI handlers.
