Nuapada: With the campaigning for panchayat elections in the state reaching its peak, the candidates in the fray and their supporters have resorted to different gimmicks and allurements to win over the electorate.
If carrying the election symbols like fish, lantern, pen and even rickshaw has become a trend in the rural polls this time, Nuapada MLA of ruling BJD Rajendra Prasad Dholakia has gone a step ahead to campaign for the party supported candidates. He is making good use of his dancing skills at small election meetings in villages of the panchayat.
Dholakia was found joining the villagers including women in dancing to the tune of popular Sambalpuri songs at the meetings. What has become apparent is that it is a deliberate campaign plan on the part of the legislator. Because all arrangements are put in place before the arrival of the legislator for campaigning. If it is daytime, a canopy is hung and some villagers are invited to gather there. Music systems with songs popular in the area are kept ready. Young and old dancers also remain prepared.
After delivering a short speech, mostly highlighting the success of welfare programmes of the BJD government for rural people, the dance programme starts. Dholakia also gets up from his chair and joins the dancing villagers.
According to the locals, the new campaign style of the MLA has become popular in the constituency. But whether it will translate into votes in favour of BJD candidates will be known after the declaration of results of the three-tier panchayat elections.
