Berhampur: The condition of at least 2o patients deteriorated after injections were administered to them in MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Friday.
According to sources, the patients having ailments of diarrhoea and acute gastric were admitted in the hospital and were undergoing treatment in men’s ward of Medicine department. They were administered anti-biotic injections like Ceftriaxone, Ondem and Pantoprazole in the morning.
Soon after the injections were administered, the patients started shivering and their body temperature shot up. On being informed, the doctors and medical superintendent Dr Santosh Kumar Mishra went to the department and checked the patients. Following the treatment, the patients’ condition was stated to be normal.
Speaking to media persons, Dr Mishra said, “The patients suffered reactions after the injections were administered. But they recovered after follow-up treatment and their condition was stable and there was no need to panic.”
He further said they have a stock of around 3,000 vials of each injection. Ruling out the possibility that the injections might have crossed the expiry date, Dr Mishra said they would investigate whey the patients’ condition deteriorated after taking the injections.
