Jharsuguda: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has on Thursday issued a notification for installation of Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda.
Informing this, Airport Director Kishore Kumar Senapati said any aircraft can land in VSS airport with a visibility from as low as 800 metres.
Previously airplanes were landing from a visibility of 1500 metres. In the absence of ILS, several planes had to be cancelled on different occasions due to adverse weather conditions.
Presently, the airport was managing with Doppler Very High Frequency Omni Range (DVOR) collocated with DME (Distance Measuring Instrument) which was installed in 2019.
With new navigational facilities, the airport will become an all-weather airport and enhance connectivity besides ensuring more regular service benefiting both airlines and passengers.
Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2018, Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda has emerged as one of the busiest airports under the Centre’s flagship UDAN scheme.
