Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate of Police has helped in reforming 50 youths, who were into substance abuse, under the DREAMS initiative (de-addiction, reformation, and entrepreneurial assistance for making a safe society).
The project was started four months back, said Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi and added that police track drug addicts and help them leave drugs by inducting them into activities like yoga, indoor sports, motivation classes, and much more.
The 50 drug addict criminals were kept under experts’ guidance at rehabilitation centers in the first phase. The addicts became addiction-free and are free to enter society and earn their livelihoods, he added.
An agreement has been signed between IIEC and So Am I Foundation Trust, which has committed to provide livelihood support to 20 such boys. Basic objective is to set an example for other boys who are in drugs and crime, said the Police Commissioner, Bhubaneswar–Cuttack.
Informing about the success of the DREAMS initiative, DCP Prateek Singh said the results have been very encouraging. Those who were into substance abuse have quit consumption and are healthy. They were provided skill training with an aim to ensure that they engage in productive work after undergoing de-addiction.
