Mumbai: Local trains, the lifeline of Mumbai, have partially opened for essential workers.
A video of an overcrowded train at Borivali station, recorded on September 23 at 5.22 pm, has gone viral on social media with Twitterati slamming the public for lack of social distancing.
However, many also pointed out that some people just can’t afford any other means of transportation.
Western Railway chief public relations officer Sumit Thakur told Mid-Day that heavy rains caused a 7-hour disruption between Churchgate-Andheri, leading to cancellation of 263 trains. “Till yesterday, not a single instance of such crowding had been reported,” he said.
