[Watch] Odisha Panchayat Polls: Sarpanch Candidate Attacked In Paradip, Voting Stopped Midway In Jajpur

Jagatsinghpur/Jajpur: In poll related violence, a sarpanch candidate was injured in Jagatsinghpur and voting suspended at different places in Jajpur during the second phase of panchayat elections in the state on Friday.

According to sources, while the voting process was going on in Paradipgarh pnahcyat under Paradip block in Jagatsinghpur, some miscreants attacked BJD supported sarpanch candidate Mihir Sahu.

The incident took place while Sahu along with his supporters was moving from booth to booth to know how the polling was going. When he reached a booth, the miscreants attacked him with a sharp weapon. While trying to escape the attack, Sahu sustained injury in his palm and was admitted to hospital, sources said.

In Jajpur district, polling was affected after miscreants created disturbances in three panchayats. While the polling was completed peacefully in Kanikapada panchayat under Dasarathpur block in the morning hours, there were reports of disturbances in the polling in the second hour.

As some miscreants resorted to capture of booth number 2 and 3, the polling officials suspended the polling midway. There were also reports of the miscreants exploding bombs in front of a booth in Biripata panchayat. The polling was also affected in Duduranta panchayat due to violent incidents.

Dasarathpur BDO Sweta Snigdha said she had information about the violence but the details can be known only after getting the report of the presiding officers of the polling stations.
