Mumbai: Shoppers need to be careful of what they purchase online as Nagpur police is henceforth going to keep a record of people buying knives online.
According to a report in DNA, the Nagpur police commissioner has directed online marketing companies to provide details of people who buy knives and other pointed objects.
Online companies have been asked to submit email ID of buyers to the crime branch.
Such a move comes in the wake of two murders that took place in the last two months. In both cases, criminals used sharp-edged or pointed objects for the crime.
While probing the murder cases, police found that 122 people had bought knives or other pointed objects online in the last two months. Of them, at least 30 people have criminal records.
Police is trying to establish a link between the murders and people with a criminal record.
The data collected from the online companies could provide important clues towards solving the case.
