[Watch] Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Disease Of Unemployment’ Jibe After Railing Collapse At Job Interview Venue In Gujarat

New Delhi: After a video showing a stampede-like situation at a job interview venue in Gujarat leading to the collapse of a railing went viral on social media, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, took a swipe at the BJP-ruled states by stating that the disease of unemployment had turned into an epidemic in India.

The video was from a walk-in interview—conducted by a company offering barely 10 vacancies—in Gujarat’s Bharuch district.

A NDTV report claimed that hundreds of applicants had turned up at the Lords Plaza Hotel in Ankleshwar for the walk-in interview on Monday for a handful of vacancies advertised by an engineering company in Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation complex in Jhagadia. The video showed how the candidates jostled for space as they were climbing the staircase to reach the job venue. As the crowd swelled outside the door, it began to push against the railing. Several candidates were forced to stand on the railing. Anticipating a collapse, two candidates jump from the railing—as seen in the video—while a few fell down with the railing. However, according to reports, no one was injured as the railing was at a short distance from the ground.

“As per our information, a company arranged walk-in interviews for nearly 40 vacancies in five different roles. The company booked a hall in a hotel in Ankleshwar expecting some 150 candidates. However, 800 turned up and company officials had to shut the door of the interview hall to control the crowd,” Bharuch Superintendent of Police Mayur Chavda told the New Indian Express.

The SP claimed that no police complaint was filed in this regard.

Meanwhile, expressing in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi wrote on X: “The disease of unemployment has taken the shape of an epidemic in India, and BJP-ruled states have turned out to be the ‘epicentre’ of this disease…” In his post, he further claimed that the youths jostling in queues for a common job represented the ‘future of India’ and the reality of Narendra Modi’s ‘Amritkal.’

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge had shared the video on X and stated that it showcased the ‘cheating model’ of the BJP in Gujarat.

The BJP also took to the microblogging site, X, and stated that efforts were being made to defame Gujarat. The party claimed that since the advertisement for the interview had mentioned that the employer was looking for experienced candidates, it was implied that those attending the interview were already employed elsewhere. It further claimed that the notion of having widespread unemployment was baseless.
