New Delhi: As scheduled, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s coronavirus vaccination drive via video conference on Saturday morning.
Addressing the nation as he launched the world’s biggest vaccination drive, the PM said, “Everyone was waiting for this day with bated breath. Everyone kept asking when will the vaccine come? It’s here and in a short span of time.”
Modi also congratulated all scientists and those in the medicine fraternity for working tirelessly to make the vaccine. “They didn’t see day or night, or festivals. Usually, medicines take years, but here in a few months, two ‘Made in India’ vaccines were made,” he said.
“It’s important to take doses. Don’t make the mistake of taking one dose and then forgetting about dose two. Listen to the experts about the gap to be kept,” he added.
At the same time, the PM cautioned everyone to continue with coronavirus-appropriate behaviour. “I appeal to you not to forget coronavirus appropriate behaviour after getting the dose. The patience with which you fought coronavirus, show the same patience during vaccination now,” he said.
The PM also asked people not to give heed to rumours and conspiracy theories as Indian vaccine scientists, medical system, process and institutional mechanism in this regard is trusted globally and “this trust is earned with a consistent track record”.
