Mumbai: A week after stating Virat Kohli is spending time with family and that he and wife Anushka Sharma are expecting their second child, former South Africa captain AB De Villiers has said he made a terrible mistake by sharing wrong information on the reason behind the Indian superstar taking a break from the India-England Test series.
“Absolutely family comes first, it’s a priority, as I said on my YouTube show (AB 360 Live). Also, I made a terrible mistake at the same time, sharing false information which was not true at all. No one knows what’s happening,” De Villiers told Dainik Bhaskar.
“All I can do is wish him well and I think the whole world that follows Virat and enjoys his cricket must just wish him well, and whatever the reason is for this break. Really hope that he comes back stronger, better, healthier and fresh,” added De Villiers, who shares a great rapport and bonding with Kohli since their days of playing for IPL side Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Three days before the start of India’s five-match home Test series against England, Kohli withdrew from the first two matches citing personal reasons.
According to reports, Kohli is likely to skip the third Test — from February 15 at Rajkot — as well. The selectors are scheduled to pick the squad for the next one or two Tests on Friday or Saturday.
