Mumbai: Having played for India Under-19, Arjun Tendulkar is striving to make the big jump to the senior international level.
In a way, Arjun is privileged to be receiving the best of advice and tips, but he knows by now that it’s not easy sharing the Tendulkar surname with a man who was nicknamed ‘God of cricket.’
The 22-year-old allrounder, who bats and bowls left-handed, was picked up by Mumbai Indians for Rs 30 lakh in ‘acclerated’ phase of IPL auction last weekend.
Sachin rarely speaks about his son’s cricket in public. But in a recent interview with US journalist Graham Bensinger, the legend revealed that he doesn’t watch Arjun play. And when he does go to see Arjun in action, Sachin prefers to hide so that his son is unaware of his presence.
“Fathers and mothers, when they watch their children play, they get stressed and that’s why I don’t go and watch Arjun, because I want him to have that freedom to fall in love with cricket… to stay focused on what he wants to do,” Sachin explained.
“He has to stay focused on the game. Like I didn’t like anyone watching me… Even if I go and watch his games, I’m hiding somewhere. He doesn’t know that I’m there, and nobody knows… not does his coach, or anyone,” he added.
