Balangir: In a shocking incident, a supply assistant has been accused of raping a widow for over a year to give her a ration card in Agalpur area of Odisha’s Balangir district.
As per sources, the woman has lodged a complaint with the police against Girish Chandra Sahu, supply assistant at Budula panchayat under Agalpur Block of the district.
She has alleged that Sahu had been coercing her into a physical relationship under the threat of making a video of her viral. She accused the supply assistant of blackmailing and sexually abusing her for around one year.
The alleged sexual abuse came to light on November 2 when the woman confronted Sahu at the panchayat office and reportedly hit him with her sandal. A video of the incident has since circulated on social media.
Based on the woman’s complaint, Agalpur police have registered a case under various sections of BNS and the IT Act. The police have begun an investigation, and a team has been formed to apprehend Sahu, who is currently on the run, according to Balangir Sadar SDPO Pradip Kumar Sahu.
The statement of the woman has been recorded before the magistrate, he said.
