Angul/Cuttack: A team of officials from Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Wildlife Crime Control Bureau and NTCA from Dehradun began monitoring the movement and behaviour of the Royal Bengal tigress, Sundari, on Sunday.
The team had arrived at Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha’s Angul district the previous day.
The team, during its stay, will study the two-year-old tigress to find out whether her aggression is due to the absence of a male partner. It is also collecting the history of the tigress related to her mode of hunting.during her stay at Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh.
The tigress had entered the Athagarh Forest Range in Cuttack district on Saturday after covering a distance of about 100 km from Satkosia.
Taking these into consideration, the team will then take a decision on whether to keep her in Satkosia or relocate her to other sanctuaries in the state.
The team, after its arrival at Satkosia, went to the spot on the outskirts of Hatibari village where the body of the woman was found in the early hours of September 12. Besides, it visited the Hatibari Forest Beat House and the office of the Tikarpada Forest Range, which were set on fire by the irate villagers following the death of the woman.
