Will Odisha Open Primary Schools Amid COVID Norms Relaxation; Know What The Minister Has To Say

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is yet to take a decision on resuming classroom teaching for primary and middle school students in the state.

Replying to a question raised by Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik in the State Assembly, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash said children and adolescents are likely to be infected by the impending third wave since they have not been vaccinated.

The government has allowed schools to conduct physical classes for Class IX, X and XII.

On attendance of students in offline classes, the minister said 26 districts have been reporting a students’ turnout of over 60 per cent in Class X while 50 per cent of Class IX students are attending classes in 28 districts.

Nayagarh district recorded the highest 87 per cent and 89 per cent attendance of Class IX and X students, respectively. Similarly, Bargarh saw the highest students’ turnout of 61.89 per cent in Class XII.

The lowest attendance of 45 per cent for Class IX students was reported from Nabarangpur and 54 per cent for Class X students from Bhadrak.

Puri district registered the lowest 35.17 per cent attendance among Class XII students.
