Puri: Will Odisha encounter more natural disasters in November after the severe cyclonic storm Dana that hit the state’s coast recently. An Odia almanac has predicted threat from possible earthquake as well as downpour due to low pressure for the state in November.
“Khadiratna Panjika”, one of the prominent almanacs followed by the Hindus in the state, has predicted that there may be heavy rainfall as well as earthquakes during November-December, this year.
As per Khadiratna Panjika, Odisha may face disasters like rain due to low pressure areas or earthquake during November 17-22, November 25029, December 307 and December 10-15, this year.
Noting that there are five Saturdays and Sundays during the month, the almanac said this indicates substantial loss to be faced in states such as Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, and West Bengal. This apart, prices of essential commodities may also increase substantially, it said.
It may be noted that much before the IMD forecast cyclone ‘Dana’, Khadiratna Panjika had predicted that sea storm and cyclone would create havoc in several districts in October.
It has mentioned about the cyclone in its prediction for Odisha for the month of October. It mentioned three different dates when the state is likely to face severe cyclonic storm.
The Khadirtatna Panjika was released for the use of people in April on the day of Mahabisuva Sankranti.
It may be mentioned that Odisha almanacs had also correctly predicted about earlier cyclones, including Super Cyclone in 1999, tsunami in 2004, Phailin in 2013, Hudhud in 2014, Titli in 2018 and Fani in 2019.
