Keonjhar: A man, identified as Bijay Pradhan from Odisha’s Ganjam district, severed his tongue after offering prayers to Ghatagaon Tarini temple here on Tuesday.
Pradhan had offered to severe his tongue before the Goddess, if his wish was fulfilled.
The servitors and priests at temple noticed blood oozing out Pradhan’s mouth and rushed him to the local Community Health Centre. His condition is stated to be stable.
Doctors said the man used a blade that he had hidden in trousers, to severe his tongue.
According to Pradhan, he is an ardent devotee of Maa Tarini and the act was part of his puja.
