Cuttack: A woman was arrested by CDA Phase II police in Cuttack on
Wednesday on charges of assaulting her four-year-old niece.
She was arrested basing on a complaint lodged by Childline officials.
On Tuesday, officials of the Cuttack district child welfare committee (CWC) rescued the minor girl, who was physically tortured and beaten up by her aunt.
According to CWC officials, medical treatment has been provided to the girl as she has injury marks all over her body. The minor girl was staying with her father’s sister since last nine months at her
residence located at CDA area. Her parents stay in Delhi. However, the matter came to the fore after some neighbours video recorded the
incident of the victim’s aunt beating her brutally with a broom on
Tuesday morning and uploaded the same to social media. Following
which, a team comprising CWC, Childline and police officials raided
the house and rescued the girl.
The girl, in her statement, also said her aunt used to beat her
up severely.
The woman said she used to beat her only when she committed any mistake to teach her discipline.
