Balasore: The Sadar Police of Balasore district on Sunday arrested a woman for the murder of her daughter, whose body was found under the Nagram bridge near Raisuan village on January 13 this year. A youth was also arrested.
According to police, the deceased Shibani Nayak (36) had opened a betel shop near her village. But as she began to sell liquor, she had frequent quarrels with her mother Sukanti, who finally decided to eliminate her.
Revealing her modus operandi, police said that Sukanti the woman contacted one Pramod Jena of Raisuan village and paid him Rs 8,000 in advance with a promise to pay him the remaining Rs 42,000 after he killed Shibani.
Pramod and his two associates killed Shibani by crushing her head with a stone on the night on January 12 and threw the body under the bridge.
Police arrested the woman and Jena on Sunday. Efforts are on to nab the two other accused, who are absconding.
