Balasore: Police on Friday detained a woman and her husband for allegedly killing her partner, whose headless body was recovered from Khannagar area under Sadar police limits in Balasore district and severed head from Bhandaripokhari area of Bhadrak district a week later.
The accused have been identified as Fakir Nayak and Sumitra Nayak. The victim, Sridhar Dalbehera, is a native of Nayagarh district. They were working for RWSS under ‘Basudha’ project at Khannagar in Balasore for the last three years.
According to police sources, Sridhar and Sumitra developed an extramarital relationship during their stay there and decided to stay together, following which Fakir left for his village.
On November 5, Sridhar allegedly thrashed Sumitra over a matter. The following night, the woman severed his head with an axe while he was sleeping. She then called her husband and informed him about the murder. Fakir soon reached Balasore on a motorcycle and the couple dumped the headless body in a bushy backyard in the locality.
The duo then headed towards Nayagarh on the two-wheeler and disposed of the head near an under-construction drain near Chatabara Chhak in Bhadrak.
Meanwhile, Sridhar’s family had lodged a complaint with Kantapada police after his younger brother was unable to contact him.
On November 12, his headless body was recovered. Following this, Sadar Police registered a complaint and launched a probe. While Sumitra was picked from Cuttack, Fakir was nabbed in Nayagarh, the sources added.
