Bhubaneswar: At a time when crime against women and girl children has been on a rise in the state, death of young woman, who was allegedly burnt alive by her in-laws for dowry at Gokanpur village under Nandankanan police limits, has sent shock waves.
According to sources, the victim, Rashmirekha, tied the knot with Asish Padhiari of Gokanpur village in 2017 and the couple has a six-month-old daughter.
Her family members have lodged a police complaint against her in-laws holding them responsible for her death. They further alleged that her in-laws had been torturing her since the marriage, demanding more dowry and when their demand was not met, they set her on fire.
On being informed, police rushed to the spot and seized the body. This apart, based on the complaint lodged by Rashmirekha’s family, the cops have detained her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law for interrogation.
“A case has been registered in this connection. The body has been sent for postmortem. Further investigation is on and we are interrogating her husband and in-laws,” informed a police officer.
