Sundargarh: A newly-married woman sustained serious injuries after a coal-laden trailer hit her in Ratanpur area under Hemgir police limits on Friday.
The woman has been identified as Nirmala Naik (22), wife of Madan Kisan. They were married a fortnight back, said locals.
Nirmala had gone to fetch water from a roadside well when the speeding coal-laden trailer hit her and fled. Family members rescued and rushed her to Hemgir Group Health Centre, where her condition is stated to be critical.
Soon after the incident, locals blocked the road protest rash driving by the coal truck drivers. As a result, hundreds of trucks carrying coal and trucks were stranded on either side of the road.
According to reports, coal is transported to Chhattisgarh on a daily basis through this route.
