Sambalpur: A woman and her daughter sustained critical injuries after allegedly being stabbed by their neighbour over a land dispute at Danipali village under Ainthapalli police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Friday.

The victims have been identified as Indu Das and her daughter Payal Das. They have been admitted to VIMSAR Hospital in Burla.

According to sources, Suraj Hati, the accused, and the Das family were not on good terms following a dispute over some land. He attacked the mother-daughter duo with a knife when they are on their was to their tailoring shop this morning. Indu and Payal were rushed to the Sadar hospital here and later shifted to VIMSAR as their condition worsened.

“The girl can speak, but her mother is very critical. They have sustained injuries on their chest, belly and other body parts,” informed Sambalpur Sadar SDPO, Tofan Bag.

He further said that a special team has been formed on the instruction of Sambalpur SP to nab the accused, who absconded after committing the crime. “We will be able to ascertain the exact reason behind the brutal attack after a detailed investigation. The victim’s son has attributed it some family dispute with their neighbour,” he added.
