Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Friday following the death of a woman, undergoing treatment for dengue at the state-run health facility, as her family alleged medical negligence.

The deceased has been identified as Chandrakala Mansingh (58), a resident of Begunia in Khurda district.

The family said her condition deteriorated last evening due to negligence of a doctor and a trainee nurse. “They didn’t care to treat her properly and my mother died due to side effects of the treatment,” alleged her daughter Sukanti Pradhan.

Refuting the allegation, Capital Hospital director Laxmidhar Sahoo told the media that the patient had low platelets count when she was admitted to the facility on Thursday afternoon. “She died within 10-15 minutes of being administered platelets in the evening. She could have died either due to bleeding because of dengue or platelet transfusion reactions. There was no negligence or delay in her treatment,” he said.

He added the family later refused a postmortem and the body was handed over to them.
