Mayurbhanj: Two days after the alleged suicide of a woman lecturer in the district, Mayurbhanj SP, Smith Parmar on Monday suspended ex-IIC of Jharapokharia police station Sarat Mahalik and ASI Prasant Swain for dereliction of duty.
The body of the lecturer was found hanging in her hostel room in Rairangpur College around 8:30 pm on Saturday.
According to sources, police recovered a suicide note near the body. However, the deceased’s family alleged that Swain, who was the investigating officer of the case, didn’t give them the suicide note.
The deceased was allegedly raped by a distant relative from Keonjhar. Her family alleged that the victim’s daughter-in-law was responsible for the incident.
The deceased’s father alleged that his daughter had talked to the SP a few hours before her death. She and her father had visited the police station several times to get justice.
Her family, however, alleged that police did not take any action.
Following the woman’s suicide, police on Sunday arrested the main accused of the rape incident, Soumya Ranjan Sahu.
Two more accused, Debabrata Mandal and Sujit Mandal, were arrested on Monday. They were forwarded to court the same day.
