Nayagarh: Tension ran high after a woman riding a pillion on a motorcycle was killed after the two-wheeler was hit by a truck at Kalapathar Square in Nayagarh district on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Deepa Pradhan. The incident took place when she was on the way to her relative’s house along with her husband.
The woman died on the spot while her husband escaped with minor injuries.
The truck has been seized and its driver detained by police.
Demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased, a group of angry locals staged blockade on the road connecting Khandapada and Bhubaneswar.
Later, the agitators withdrew the blockade after getting assurance from senior police officers that their demands will be considered.
