Jajpur: A woman and her newborn baby boy were allegedly abandoned by her husband and in-laws on hospital bed in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
As per reports, the incident took place at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jajpur soon after the woman gave birth to the baby boy. The woman has been identified as Dali Mallick of Ghatakula village of Madusudanpur Gram Pachayat under Binjharpur police station.
The woman had reportedly got married to Chandan Mallick of Nagamatha village under Aul block in Kendrapara district, in 2021.
Sources said Dali was admitted to the hospital on January 1 and she gave birth to a baby boy later. However, Chandan and his family members allegedly went away leaving Dali and the newborn at the hospital due to some family dispute.
After the woman narrated her plight to others, information was given to the police about the shocking incident. The woman and the baby have been handed over to one-stop centre following the intervention of the police.
Stating that her husband and his family members deserted her at the hospital, the woman said he called her husband over phone, but he did not respond. He had earlier claimed that had got married to another woman, she said.
Police are stated to be trying to reconcile the couple after counseling both, while Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has reported said that action will be taken against Chandan for neglecting his wife and newborn baby and leaving them in a helpless condition at the hospital.
