Woman ‘Poisoned’ To Death Over Dowry In Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Baripada: A woman was allegedly poisoned to death by her mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law at a village in Kaptipada area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district over dowry.

As per preliminary information, the incident took place at Bhandaripal village under the jurisdiction of Kaptipada police station., The woman, who was allegedly poisoned on Tuesday, died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.

The deceased has been identified as Sita Naik, wife of Sudarshan Bindhani of the same village.
Sources Sudarshan and Sita had got married around nine months ago. After their marriage, her in-laws allegedly started torturing her mentally and physically and asking her to get more dowry from her parents.

The woman was allegedly poisoned by her mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law on Tuesday. After getting information from the neighbours, Sita’s relatives went to Bhandaripal and rushed her to Udla Hospital in a critical condition. However, she died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on Wednesday morning.

Her mother lodged a written complaint at the Kaptipada police station alleging that her daughter was poisoned to death.

Based on the complaint, the police have started an investigation into the incident and detained the in-laws of the deceased.
