Paradip: A woman, who had allegedly jumped into Mahanadi river at Paradip in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, was rescued by local fishermen and a rescue team on Tuesday.
According to sources, the woman allegedly attempted to die by suicide by jumping into the swollen river near Bhutamundai bridge over some family dispute.
The woman got washed away for over five km after jumping into the river. She was rescued near Nehru Bangla fishing harbor at Paradip.
Locals spotted the woman getting washed away in floodwater and immediately swung into action. A group of fishermen and others launched a rescue operation and pulled the woman out of water.
While the woman did not reveal the exact reason behind her move, a team was sent to her house after ascertaining the address. It was found that she jumped into the river over some family dispute. The woman was handed over to her family members.
