Bhubaneswar: In a filmi style of conmanship, a woman allegedly threatened the staff of a shopping mall of filing a rape complaint against them when asked to pay the bill for her purchase.
The incident took place in the mall at Patrapada on Thursday evening, when the woman, accompanied by a male companion and a child, had gone for shopping. She selected four sarees, a purse and a lady’s purse worth over Rs 50,000, according to sources.
At the billing counter, she reportedly told the cashier and other staff that she is a friend of one of the partners of the shop and the bill has already been paid.
As the staff refused to believe her words and demanded her to make the payment, it led to a heated argument. During the altercation, the woman threatened the employees that she would file a rape complaint against them if they insisted on paying the bill.
“Before picking up the sarees and other things, she enquired about Ajay Satpathy who was a former business partner of our owner. At the billing counter, she asked for the bill. Our staff said they can’t produce it without payment,” said the employees.
When the woman said she had already paid it to Ajay Sir, and asked to take it from him, the counter staff expressed their inability to do so. Then she snatched the bags and threatened to file a rape complaint against them.
As she rushed out of the mall in an SUV, the mall staff noted down the vehicle number. Later, the mall authorities filed a complaint at Tomando police station.
