Rourkela: A group of women blocked two main roads near Kendirikela in Sundargarh district on Monday to protest against the establishment of a sponge iron plant.
Vehicular movement on the roads connecting Bonai was disrupted for several hours following the blockade.
“We strongly oppose setting up of the sponge iron plant, the construction work for which is ongoing. Establishment of the plant at this place would spread pollution in its neighbouring villages due to emission of huge quantity of smoke containing harmful gases. So, the district administration should take immediate steps to shift the plant to some other place,” an agitator said.
