Kendrapada: Due to lack of adequate beds, several women were forced to sleep on the floor of Rajkanika Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kendrapada district after tubectomy procedure.
According to sources, at least 29 women were brought by accredited social health activists (ASHA) to the CHC for the family planning procedure on Tuesday. After the operation, the women were given plastic sheets to sleep on the floor of the hospital.
The incident triggered sharp criticism from the relatives of the patients and the ASHA workers.
The in-charge of the CHC, Badal Kumar Mohanty, said that a construction work is going on in the hospital. Therefore, a shortage of beds forced family planning patients to be on the floor. Once the construction is over, patients will not face any difficulty in getting beds at the hospital, he said.
